Your Own Best Friend

I’m anointed for this. I have to be, because you wouldn’t believe the way the devil sends people after me the more I pursue this dream. But someone once told me, God wouldn’t give you vision without provision. My vision is that Pompano Beach and other Black communities embrace their strength and resiliency and be the best they can be. My role is to communicate. That’s what I know how to do, and I know I do it well. I’ve been a journalist for over 20 years, but I am new to becoming a media owner. I’ve made some mistakes, I will admit. But thankfully I am a humble servant to a God who is filled with grace and mercy. Now people, that’s a different story. I come here to air out my mistakes, and apologize for putting myself over my calling. A recent supporter of Villij News called and rescinded their support due to their picture not being included in two separate issues. They have made a decision to publicly attempt to disenfranchise my black-owned business, so I want to clear the air.

This person’s name and picture wasn’t included in the XX issue due to them not filing required paperwork necessary to be featured in the story. I was confronted about this, to which I explained the situation and was told that I shouldn’t have even run the story if they were not featured. I did not agree, but did admire her efforts within the city and planned to do a follow up story with her. The October issue just came out and this persons picture can be found throughout the paper, but not in one story of major importance to her. She called me furious, and I explained that this instance was my mistake and my staff has been trying to contact you for a longer intereview. She explained that she wanted nothing to do with Villij, which is fine. But anything aside from the story here is a lie. That is the basis of the vicerol – not on my parent. Her yard sign still sits in my front porch.
