The six-story building on East Sample Road is scheduled to open in 2027, with offices for heart, neurological and orthopedic care.

A steel beam carrying signatures from construction crews, local officials and hospital leaders rose to the top of Broward Health North’s new medical office building. An American flag and a palm tree went up with it, marking the moment the six-story structure reached its full height.

Broward Health announced the milestone Nov. 4. The project at 201 E. Sample Road is designed to expand outpatient specialty care on the hospital campus, where Broward Health says it expects to open the building in 2027. See coverage of the beam ceremony.

More room for specialty care on Sample Road

The building is slated to have offices for cardiovascular care, neuroscience and orthopedics, along with other specialty clinics and affiliated practices. The plan is to put more of those outpatient appointments on the same campus as the hospital’s inpatient services.

Broward Health says the 127,033-square-foot building will start with 75 exam rooms. The design leaves room to grow to 123 if demand warrants it. That flexibility gives the hospital a way to add exam rooms later without having to start over with a new building. See Broward Health’s project announcement.

For someone who needs a follow-up after a hospital stay or whose care involves more than one specialist, where those offices are located matters. Broward Health North CEO Matt Garner said keeping the specialty services on campus is intended to make them easier to reach for local patients.

What comes after the final beam

The Deerfield Beach project broke ground in April. With the steel frame now in place, the construction team is preparing to put up prefabricated panels, according to David Clark, Broward Health’s senior vice president of operations. The frame going up is one step toward getting the building ready to receive patients.

The Beck Group and DMZ Architects designed the building, and DPR Construction is the general contractor. The hospital says the design draws on the area’s lighthouse as inspiration for the exterior. See DPR Construction’s project overview.

The Deerfield Beach building is one of two medical office projects Broward Health has underway. The other includes a medical office building and parking garage at Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale. Read Villij News’ coverage of the Fort Lauderdale project.

For families who help a parent get to a heart appointment or arrange a ride to an orthopedic visit, the next details will matter more than the height of the building. They’ll want to know which practices are opening on Sample Road and when they can book a visit close to home.

Villij News will continue following construction at Broward Health North and what the expansion means for Deerfield Beach and nearby communities. We remain committed to keeping residents informed about changes that affect their access to care in north Broward.
