ARREST MADE IN DEADLY POMPANO BEACH SHOOTING

A 50-year-old man has been arrested after a Friday night shooting in Pompano Beach left one man dead and another injured, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

BSO identified the suspect as Rau Lee Davis Jr., 50, of Margate. He faces one count of second-degree murder and one count of attempted second-degree murder.

Detectives said Robert Vaughn, 46, and another adult man were gambling in the front yard of a home at 1530 NW Seventh Ave. around 11:53 p.m. Friday when an argument broke out with Davis, who was also gambling.

According to investigators, Davis pulled out a firearm and fired several rounds, striking both men.

Pompano Beach Fire Rescue pronounced Vaughn dead at the scene. The second victim received medical treatment. His identity is being withheld under Marsy’s Law.

BSO said Davis left the scene following the shooting but later returned. Detectives arrested him on the murder and attempted murder charges.

The investigation is being handled by BSO’s Homicide and Crime Scene units.
