Breast Cancer Awareness Month programs aim to make screenings accessible to Broward County women who are uninsured or underinsured

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Broward County women who have delayed getting a mammogram because of cost will have several opportunities to receive low-cost or free breast cancer screenings throughout October.

Broward Health is offering $75 3D screening mammograms throughout Breast Cancer Awareness Month for women who are uninsured, underinsured or paying out of pocket. A separate program will provide free mammograms to qualifying Broward County women on select Saturdays.

The health system says the initiatives are intended to remove financial barriers that can prevent women from receiving routine screenings and detecting breast cancer early.

$75 mammograms available all month

Through MammoThon 2026, women can receive a 3D screening mammogram for $75 at Broward Health hospital locations from Oct. 1 through Oct. 31.

No prescription or physician referral is required.

Broward Health is also offering extended hours and weekend appointments to make screenings easier to schedule.

Women can make an appointment or get additional information at BrowardHealth.org/Mammo.

Some Broward women qualify for completely free screenings

Broward Health is also partnering with the Florida Department of Health in Broward County for its Beating Cancer Together initiative.

The program provides free mammograms to women who meet income, insurance, age and residency requirements.

To qualify, women must:

  • Be between ages 40 and 64
  • Live in Broward County
  • Have little or no health insurance
  • Have household income at or below 200% of the federal poverty level

Women diagnosed with breast cancer through the program may also qualify for free treatment services.

Unlike the $75 MammoThon screenings, women seeking a free mammogram through Beating Cancer Together must be pre-qualified and registered in advance.

To register, call 954-762-3649 or visit BrowardHealth.org/Beating-Cancer-Together.

October screening dates

The remaining Beating Cancer Together screening events are:

Saturday, Oct. 10
Broward Health Medical Center
8 a.m. to noon

Saturday, Oct. 17
Broward Health Imperial Point
8 a.m. to noon

Saturday, Oct. 24
Broward Health Coral Springs

Saturday, Oct. 31

Broward Health North also hosted a screening event Oct. 3.

Breast cancer is among the most commonly diagnosed cancers in women in the United States. Regular mammograms can help identify breast cancer at an earlier stage, when treatment may be more effective.

For Broward women who have put off a screening because they lack insurance or are concerned about the cost, the October programs provide an opportunity to get screened at a reduced cost — or, for those who qualify, at no cost.
