Free Mammograms Coming to Hollywood Oct. 16 for Broward Women Facing Barriers to Care

City News

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. — Broward County women who are uninsured, underinsured or have limited access to health care can receive a free mammogram in Hollywood on Friday, Oct. 16.

Promise Fund will host a free Mammography Screening Day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Hispanic Unity of Florida, 5840 Johnson St., Hollywood, FL 33021.

The screenings will be provided in partnership with Florida Mobile Mammography. Appointments are required and can be scheduled by calling 561-475-0510.

“The Promise Fund is committed to ensuring that everyone has access to lifesaving screenings, particularly those who may face barriers to care,” said Ertha Jean-Francois, Promise Fund’s Broward County Navigator.

Jean-Francois said early detection can make a significant difference for women diagnosed with cancer.

“Finding cancer early can have a tremendous impact,” she said. “It can lead to more treatment options and give patients a better opportunity to prioritize their well-being while continuing to be present for their families and daily lives.”

Expanding access to breast cancer screenings

The Oct. 16 event comes during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, when health organizations nationwide encourage women to learn about breast cancer risk and the importance of recommended screenings.

Promise Fund focuses particularly on women who might otherwise struggle to access screening and treatment because they are uninsured, underinsured or face other barriers to health care.

The South Florida nonprofit provides support throughout the cancer-care process, connecting women with screenings, early detection, treatment and other services.

Since its founding in 2018, Promise Fund says it has reached more than 145,000 women across South Florida through education and advocacy and helped more than 27,000 women access screenings, diagnostics and care. The organization says it has also helped 286 women diagnosed with cancer navigate treatment.

Its programs currently serve women in Broward, Palm Beach and Martin counties.
