Broward HealthPoint and the City of Lauderhill recently transformed a local park into a hub of health and wellness, drawing more than 600 residents to their Stay Healthy Together community event. This initiative aims to break down barriers to healthcare by bringing essential services directly into neighborhoods.
Held in Lauderhill, the event is part of a broader effort to improve access to preventative and primary care across Broward County. Shane Strum, President and CEO of Broward Health, emphasized the program’s mission, saying, “We’re taking medicine and healthcare to everyone out there, we’re flipping the model.”
Broward HealthPoint’s mobile health units were on-site, providing services that included primary care visits and screenings for blood pressure and glucose. Meanwhile, the pediatric unit offered care for children and families. The event also focused on nutrition, distributing 700 bags of nutritious food and serving 700 hot lunches to attendees, volunteers, and staff.
Educational workshops played a significant role, with sessions on CPR, water safety, sun protection, and chronic disease management. Dr. Vanina Molinares led discussions on diabetes and high blood pressure, while another session, “Breathe. Reset. Thrive,” offered practical health tips.
Melida Akiti, corporate transformation executive at Broward Health, highlighted the power of collaboration, stating, “Working alongside the City of Lauderhill and our community partners allows us to connect residents with vital health services and support in meaningful ways.”
The event brought together 47 community partners and 128 volunteers, all working to expand healthcare access. This initiative is part of the Better Together program, which seeks to provide care regardless of financial ability, focusing on screenings, health resources, and food assistance.
With plans to extend the Stay Healthy Together events to more cities, Broward HealthPoint continues to make strides in community health, aiming for early detection and personalized care for all residents.
