NSU President Harry K. Moon Joins Leadership of Florida’s Independent Colleges

In a significant step for higher education in Florida, Dr. Harry K. Moon, the president and CEO of Nova Southeastern University (NSU), has been appointed to the Executive Committee of the Independent Colleges and Universities of Florida (ICUF). His one-year term begins on June 1, marking the start of a collaborative effort to enhance educational opportunities across the state.

Dr. Moon will work with fellow leaders to drive ICUF’s strategic priorities, focusing on expanding access to higher education, bolstering workforce development, and fostering research innovation. “Florida’s independent colleges and universities play an important role in preparing the next generation of leaders and professionals who will serve our communities and drive economic growth,” Dr. Moon shared. He expressed his honor in taking on this leadership role within ICUF, aiming to advance student opportunity and innovation.

Bob Boyd, president and CEO of ICUF, praised Dr. Moon’s leadership, noting NSU’s impressive growth and commitment to student opportunity as pivotal in shaping Florida’s future workforce. Boyd emphasized Dr. Moon’s ability to align innovation and academic excellence with workforce needs.

ICUF represents a diverse group of 30 private, nonprofit educational institutions across Florida, serving over 160,000 students. These schools, accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, vary in size and mission, offering a range of programs from undergraduate to professional education.

NSU stands out as Florida’s largest private research university, with a projected economic impact of over $6.7 billion. Classified as an R1 institution by the Carnegie Foundation, NSU is recognized for its high level of research activity, further cementing its role as a leader in academic and professional circles.

Dr. Moon’s involvement with ICUF is poised to strengthen the collaboration between Florida’s educational institutions, ensuring that the state continues to produce skilled professionals ready to meet the demands of a dynamic economy.
