SUNRISE, Fla. – Former NBA stars, innovative rules, celebrity appearances, and fast-paced competition took center stage as the BIG3 made its South Florida stop at Amerant Bank Arena on Sunday, bringing its signature brand of professional 3-on-3 basketball to fans across the region.

Founded in 2017 by entertainment icon Ice Cube and producer Jeff Kwatinetz, the BIG3 has carved out a unique place in professional basketball by featuring former NBA veterans, international talent, and rising stars competing under the league’s proprietary Fireball 3 rules. The league’s ninth season continues its nationwide tour with games broadcast on CBS, BET, and the BIG3’s digital platforms.

Unlike traditional basketball, Fireball 3 eliminates the game clock. Instead, teams play to a target score of 50, with the winning team required to lead by at least two points. Halftime is reached once a team scores 25 points, keeping every possession meaningful and creating dramatic finishes.

Among the league’s most talked-about innovations is the “Bring the Fire” challenge. Once per half, a coach can dispute a foul by initiating a one-on-one showdown between the two players involved. The winner of the matchup determines possession, replacing lengthy replay reviews with live competition. Additional rule changes, including the four-point shot, randomized inbound possessions, and no clearing after blocked shots, help distinguish the BIG3 from both the NBA and traditional FIBA 3-on-3 basketball.

Fans at Amerant Bank Arena were also treated to appearances from BIG3 co-founder Ice Cube, comedian and entertainer D.C. Young Fly, and South Florida rapper Ace Hood, who performed during halftime.

Sunday’s South Florida showcase featured four games, with victories by the Dallas Power, Chicago Triplets, Boston Ball Hogs, and DMV Trilogy. Several former NBA players and fan favorites suited up throughout the afternoon, continuing the league’s tradition of bringing recognizable basketball talent to markets across the country.

The action returns to South Florida on Friday, July 31, when the BIG3 hosts another doubleheader at Amerant Bank Arena. Fans will see the Detroit Amps take on the Dallas Power in the opening matchup before the hometown team, Miami 305 faces the Boston Ball Hogs.

Miami 305 enters the matchup looking to build momentum in front of its home crowd, while Dallas Power has emerged as one of the league’s early contenders behind standout performances from Elijah Stewart, Greg Monroe, Glen Rice Jr. and T.J. Cline. Meanwhile, the Boston Ball Hogs continue to feature one of the league’s premier long-range threats in Jeremy Pargo, whose four-point shooting has helped make the Ball Hogs one of the season’s most exciting teams to watch.

As the BIG3 continues its national tour, the league remains committed to blending high-level competition with entertainment, offering basketball fans an experience unlike any other. From Hall of Fame-caliber talent and innovative rules to celebrity appearances and family-friendly atmosphere, the league continues to redefine what professional summer basketball can look like.
