FORT LAUDERDALE, FL — Families across Broward County can access free, fresh food today as United Way of Broward County hosts a large-scale drive-through distribution as part of the Fresh Communities Tour: From the Fields to America’s Cities.

The event runs today, Friday, April 17, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at United Way Broward and is open to the public while supplies last. The initiative is in partnership with Planet Harvest, Fresh Express, and Chiquita.

Organizers say the tour is designed to bring fresh, nutritious food directly to underserved communities while supporting farmers and improving access to healthy meals.

Each household will receive a food box that includes fresh fruits and vegetables, chicken, white rice, black beans, Fresh Express salad kits, Chiquita bananas, pantry staples, and a recipe to help families prepare balanced meals at home. Nutrition resources will also be available on-site.

The South Florida stop of the tour is expected to distribute 5,000 food boxes across Miami-Dade and Broward counties between April 16–18, with Fort Lauderdale serving as one of the largest distribution hubs.

Additional community distributions are also taking place in partnership with local organizations, including King Jesus Church and Lotus House.

Residents are encouraged to arrive early, as demand is expected to be high.
