Costco Moves Forward in Pompano Beach After Commission Vote

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. — The long-debated Costco project is moving forward after the Pompano Beach City Commission voted to rescind the Planning & Zoning Board’s recommendation and approve the development, despite hours of public opposition.

Residents packed City Hall to voice concerns about increased traffic, air quality, neighborhood compatibility and the overall impact the warehouse retailer could have on nearby communities. Several speakers argued they felt the public process fell short and asked commissioners to delay the vote to allow for additional community engagement.

However, city officials emphasized that while community outreach is encouraged, it is not a legal requirement for approval.
