Excitement is in the air at the Children’s Diagnostic & Treatment Center (CDTC) in Fort Lauderdale as they prepare to host a Back to School Resource Fair specifically for children with special needs. This much-anticipated event is scheduled for Wednesday, July 29, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the CDTC located at 1401 S. Federal Highway.
The fair, an initiative by CDTC in partnership with Broward Health, aims to equip children with the tools they need for a successful school year. Families attending can expect a variety of offerings including free school uniforms and backpacks filled with essential school supplies like notebooks, pencils, and crayons. These will be distributed with the help of Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue and Police, ensuring that every child is ready to tackle the new school year.
In addition to the school supplies, the event will offer water safety and drowning prevention education provided by the Florida Department of Health, highlighting the importance of safety for children and families. Children will also have the unique opportunity to meet Stanley C. Panther from the Florida Panthers, alongside members of the Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue and Police Department.
The fair promises to be a fun-filled event with activities such as face painting, courtesy of Florida Girls Giving Back, and a custom photo booth for families to capture memories. Mothers and caregivers won’t be left out, as there will be costume jewelry giveaways to show appreciation for their support.
The event is a collaborative effort involving various community partners including Florida Power & Light and Florida Girls Giving Back. Melissa Bottge White, the Executive Director of CDTC, along with grateful parents and attendees, will be available for interviews during the event.
By providing these resources, CDTC aims to ensure that children with special needs in the Fort Lauderdale community have an equitable start to their educational journey. This initiative not only supports families but also strengthens community ties, demonstrating the power of coming together for a common cause.
