Coral Springs Resident Joins Historic Broward Health Medical Class System History

In a heartfelt ceremony marking a significant milestone, Coral Springs native Dr. Krista Gaie Grant donned her white coat as part of Broward Health’s largest Graduate Medical Education (GME) class to date. This annual White Coat Ceremony celebrated the incoming class of 141 residents and fellows, a record for the healthcare system.

Dr. Grant, whose journey began as the daughter of Jamaican immigrants and a graduate of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, has been a pioneer in her family as the first to graduate from college. Her educational path led her to the University of Florida, where she discovered a passion for dermatology and a unique way to give back.

While in college, Dr. Grant faced personal challenges with hair loss and taught herself wig-making through online tutorials. This skill turned into a compassionate mission during medical school, where she crafted and donated wigs for pediatric cancer patients, collaborating with UF Health Shands clinical teams.

“I am honored to be able to embark on the next phase of my healthcare career with Broward Health,” Dr. Grant shared, reflecting on the significance of the White Coat Ceremony and the support of her family and peers.

Broward Health, a major public healthcare system headquartered in Fort Lauderdale, now hosts a total of 388 residents and fellows across 28 residency and fellowship programs, including new additions in obstetrics, gynecology, and pharmacy.

This expansion reflects Broward Health’s commitment to providing exceptional care and training to the next generation of medical professionals. With over 11,000 employees and an operating budget exceeding $2 billion, Broward Health continues to deliver comprehensive healthcare services to the community, regardless of patients’ ability to pay.

Dr. Grant and her fellow residents will rotate throughout Broward Health facilities, gaining diverse experiences and contributing to the healthcare needs of South Florida communities.
