Broward Healthy Start Coalition Launches Lifeline for Pregnant Women and Families

The Broward Healthy Start Coalition and Broward Behavioral Health Coalition, Inc. have introduced a countywide awareness campaign. This campaign aims to connect residents with essential maternal and behavioral health resources, ensuring that every family has access to the support they need.

The Connect Program, a cornerstone of this effort, serves as Broward County’s Coordinated Intake and Referral department. It provides a welcoming first point of contact for families seeking guidance, education, and access to community resources—all at no cost. Through this program, families can access a wide range of services, including home visits, childbirth and parenting education, and support for breastfeeding and birth. Additional resources include fatherhood programs, child development services, maternal wellness resources, care coordination, and peer support services.

Monica Figueroa King, President & CEO of Broward Healthy Start Coalition, emphasizes the program’s commitment to breaking down barriers for those in need. “Pregnant women and families experiencing life’s challenges or obstacles may be afraid to ask for help because of stigma, fear, or uncertainty about what will happen next,” she shared. “We want every parent to know that they don’t have to face this alone. Asking for help is a sign of strength.”

Peer Navigators, individuals who have personally overcome challenges, are integral to the Connect Program’s success. They provide compassionate support, using their experiences to help mothers feel strong and confident. This peer support is particularly vital for pregnant women facing issues like substance use or trauma, offering a safe space to access resources before crises arise.
