Veneita Dempster, a Tamarac resident, recently marked a remarkable milestone, celebrating her 103rd birthday. This joyous occasion was made possible by a crucial medical intervention at Broward Health Coral Springs.
After experiencing weeks of shortness of breath and a persistent cough, Veneita’s family took her to the hospital, where doctors discovered that her pacemaker had reached the end of its lifespan. Typically, pacemakers need replacement every seven to ten years, and Veneita’s had outlived its functionality.
Dr. Sameer Satija, a cardiac electrophysiologist, performed the procedure to implant a new pacemaker, effectively restoring Veneita’s heart rhythm. This successful operation not only ensured her well-being but also allowed her to celebrate another year with her loved ones.
Born in Jamaica, Veneita is surrounded by a large family, including five children and ten grandchildren. Her family cherishes the additional time gained with her, emphasizing the significance of the procedure beyond just a birthday celebration.
