Community Fort Lauderdale

A shooting in Oakland Park left one dead and another wounded, and detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office Homicide unit are investigating the circumstances surrounding this fatal incident.

The shooting occurred shortly before 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 14, near the 3000 block of West Oakland Park Boulevard. According to investigators, BSO Oakland Park District deputies were in the area responding to a disturbance call at a local flea market. Detectives say the call was related to a music video shoot. While on-scene, deputies heard multiple gunshots coming from a nearby gas station. The deputies immediately responded to that scene and located two gunshot wound victims.

Oakland Park Fire Rescue also responded, and one of the victims was pronounced deceased on scene, while the other was transported to an area hospital by paramedics.

Witnesses on scene told investigators several subjects approached the victims prior to the shooting and that the subjects fled the scene in a dark-colored vehicle. Detectives say when BSO deputies and BSO BAT (Burglary Apprehension Team) detectives attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a car matching the description the subjects in the vehicle bailed out. The individuals were quickly detained and arrested on unrelated charges.

At this time, detectives are working to confirm if the music video and shooting are related.
