Live at The Hive brings big laughs to Pompano’s newest intimate theater

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. — A room full of strangers, and permission to laugh at life’s awkward moments make for a memorable night out. That’s the experience at Live at the Hive, Pompano Beach’s intimate comedy series, where you can get up close and personal with traveling comedians.

Held inside The Hive Black Box Theater at the Ali Cultural Arts Center, the comedy series feels more like laughing with friends than a traditional stage show.

Villij News attended the July 11 performance featuring Greg Henderson and Julie Baez, and one thing became clear quickly: this is not a show for children.

The comedians tackled everything from relationships and divorce to dating, religion and plenty of sex. Baez had the audience laughing with stories about life in Miami, being Dominican, marrying a Jewish man, becoming newly single after divorce and navigating the dating scene. Even Henderson, who bills himself as a Christian comedian, mixed faith with edgy humor, proving that “clean” is definitely a relative term.

Some jokes pushed the envelope, but the crowd embraced the honesty. If you’re easily offended, this may not be your show. But if you appreciate uncensored stand-up comedy, Live at The Hive delivers.

The venue itself is part of the experience. The Hive Black Box Theater is designed as a flexible performance space that allows audiences to connect closely with artists. Guests can also enjoy a beer and wine bar before the show, making it easy to turn the evening into a relaxed night out.

Tickets range from $25 to $35, making it one of the more affordable live entertainment options in South Florida.

Villij Verdict: Leave the kids at home and make it a date night. Great laughs, an intimate atmosphere and a welcoming venue make Live at The Hive another reason Pompano Beach’s arts scene continues to grow.
