Broward Student Arrested After Rock-Paper-Scissors Bet Triggers School Threat, Lockdowns

BROWARD COUNTY – A 13 year old is facing felony charges after deputies say he called 911 with a school shooting threat – all over a lost game of rock, paper, scissors. The call prompted lockdowns at Deerfield Beach Middle and Cypress Bay High on April 29 as heavily armed units, including SWAT, responded.

Investigators say the teen admitted to making the threat as part of a bet. He was arrested and charged with misuse of 911 and making a false report involving a firearm. Authorities stress: school threats are crimes – not games – and more arrests could follow.
