**Broward Health Honored for Maternal Mental Health and Community Wellness Efforts**
In a heartfelt recognition of its dedication to community health, Broward Health has been acknowledged by both the Broward County Board of County Commissioners and the City of Lauderhill. These honors celebrate the organization’s Stay Healthy Together program, which seeks to enhance access to crucial healthcare services across Broward County.
During a recent county commission meeting, Commissioner Alexandra P. Davis declared May 2026 as Maternal Mental Health Awareness Month. The proclamation emphasized the significance of addressing mental and physical health challenges faced by mothers during pregnancy and postpartum, acknowledging the collaborative efforts of various healthcare providers and community organizations.
Representatives from Broward Health, including Melida Akiti and Kathy Salerno, joined other maternal healthcare leaders at the ceremony. Shane Strum, President and CEO of Broward Health, expressed gratitude for the recognition, highlighting the importance of maternal mental health services for families.
Adding to the accolades, the City of Lauderhill named April 27, 2026, Broward Health Appreciation Day. This recognition is a testament to the organization’s Stay Healthy Together initiative, which extends the Better Together collaboration with Memorial Healthcare System. The initiative provides mobile healthcare services, screenings, health education, and food distributions to improve health outcomes and reduce care barriers.
“Strong collaboration is essential to building healthier communities,” said Akiti. This sentiment was echoed during a March 2026 wellness event in Lauderhill, where Broward HealthPoint served over 600 residents with medical visits, screenings, and preventive services. Volunteers distributed 700 nutritious food bags and served hot lunches, demonstrating a commitment to community support.
“We are incredibly grateful for both of these honors and are proud to continue working together to expand access to care and support a healthier community,” added Strum.
Broward Health’s ongoing efforts to deliver exceptional care and compassion continue to make a significant impact on families across Broward County.
