Community Education

By Villij News Staff

Arc Broward has expanded its specialized ABLE afterschool program to Bright Horizons Center in Deerfield Beach, bringing another location for services supporting children with developmental disabilities and behavioral challenges to northeastern Broward County.

The nonprofit announced that the location would include two classrooms where students could participate in creative activities, build social skills, stay active and develop connections with peers.

Broward County Public Schools’ child care directory lists Arc Broward as an afterschool provider at Bright Horizons Center, located at 3901 NE First Terrace.

Specialized Support After the School Day

ABLE stands for Alternative Behavioral Learning Environment. According to Arc Broward, the broader program serves children and young people ages 3 to 21 with developmental disabilities and behavioral challenges. Board-certified behavior analysts assess students and develop individualized behavior plans, while certified teachers provide instruction in science and literacy.

The program also includes social skills training, physical fitness, cultural arts and recreational activities. Case management and nursing services are among the supports identified by the organization. Arc Broward says staffing ratios are based on each child’s needs, allowing the level of support to reflect individual circumstances.

Another Location for Broward Families

The Deerfield Beach expansion places ABLE services at a school in northeastern Broward, adding another location where families can inquire about specialized afterschool programming. In its announcement, Arc Broward described the Bright Horizons classrooms as places for students to learn, create and connect in a supportive environment.

The program’s activities combine academic support with opportunities to practice social skills and participate in recreation beyond the regular school day.
