More than 300 girls from Broward County and Miami recently had the opportunity to select brand-new luxury handbags through a charitable initiative supported by Rita Case, president, CEO and owner of Rick Case Automotive Group, and the nonprofit Soles4Souls.

The distribution brought together participants from Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County’s teen centers and Honey Shine, an all-girls mentoring program associated with the Overtown Youth Center in Miami. According to an October 13 announcement from Rick Case Automotive Group, more than 300 handbags were distributed, allowing participants to choose from a variety of styles that reflected their individual preferences.

Organizers described the experience as an opportunity to provide something meaningful to young people while promoting confidence, independence and personal expression.

More Than a Shopping Experience

Rather than simply receiving a predetermined item, participants were given the opportunity to select handbags according to their own tastes. The initiative emphasized the importance of giving girls a sense of choice and allowing them to express their personalities through everyday accessories.

Case said the excitement surrounding the distribution reflected a broader purpose beyond the handbags themselves. In the organization’s announcement, she emphasized that the initiative was also about choice, confidence and self-esteem.

The organizers also pointed to the practical value of handbags, which can help young people organize and carry their personal belongings throughout the day. For the participating girls, the experience offered both a new accessory and an opportunity to make an individual selection.

Broward County Youth Organizations Participate

Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County was among the organizations whose participants benefited from the distribution. The nonprofit operates 18 club facilities throughout the county and reports serving more than 2,000 young people between the ages of 6 and 18 daily.

Its programs focus on academic development, personal growth, leadership and creating supportive environments where young people can develop skills for adulthood. The handbag initiative included girls from the organization’s teen centers, extending the community partnership beyond traditional educational and recreational programming. The distribution also included elementary, middle and high school participants from Honey Shine, a mentoring program founded by Tracy Wilson Mourning.

Honey Shine focuses on helping girls develop confidence and life skills through educational activities, mentoring and exposure to new experiences. Its programs include workshops, field trips, journaling, summer activities and opportunities that introduce participants to subjects involving education, wellness and career development. The collaboration brought together girls participating in programs serving different communities across South Florida.

Soles4Souls Expands Its Community Impact

The initiative was supported through Soles4Souls’ 4Relief program. Soles4Souls is a nonprofit organization that works to create opportunities through footwear, clothing and other essential items. Its 4Relief initiative typically supports people facing hardship or crisis, including those affected by homelessness, natural disasters, domestic violence and displacement.

The organization works with nonprofit partners, schools and community groups to distribute goods to people who can benefit from additional assistance. The handbag distribution represents another example of how charitable partnerships can provide personal items while promoting dignity and confidence. Soles4Souls also operates initiatives focused on youth access to footwear, economic opportunity and sustainable solutions for clothing and shoe distribution.

Rick Case Automotive Group’s History of Giving Back

The Rick Case Automotive Group has maintained charitable partnerships throughout South Florida, including initiatives focused on children and families. Rita Case and her late husband, Rick Case, began supporting Soles4Souls in 2013 through efforts that included providing shoes and coats to children.

The automotive group has also supported 4EveryKid Broward, an initiative intended to help children experiencing housing insecurity obtain new shoes. The latest handbag distribution continues that relationship while focusing on opportunities for girls involved in youth development programs. The automotive company, headquartered in Sunrise, operates dealerships in South Florida and Georgia.

Supporting the Next Generation

The distribution highlights the role that local businesses, charitable organizations and mentoring programs can play when they work together to support young people. Although the handbags were the centerpiece of the experience, the participating organizations emphasized larger goals involving confidence, self-expression and opportunities for personal growth.

The event also brought attention to the ongoing work of Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County and Honey Shine, which provide programming and support to young people beyond one-time charitable distributions.
