Lauderhill Police Officer Brian Sguros has resigned from the Lauderhill Police Department following an array of serious criminal charges.

Announced by the city on October 27, Sguros’ resignation came in lieu of termination after an internal investigation and his arrest on October 20. The charges against him include Official Misconduct, Criminal Use of a Deceased Person’s Personal Identification Information, and other offenses related to identity theft and misuse of communication devices.
This situation emerged from a complaint filed in May 2026, involving allegations tied to a residential property in Lauderhill. Initially placed on paid administrative leave in July, Sguros’ status changed to unpaid leave after his arrest. The city had started termination proceedings before he chose to resign.
Both Lauderhill Police Chief Constance Stanley and City Manager Kennie Hobbs, Jr. have issued statements regarding the incident. The Lauderhill Police Department plans to report Sguros’ separation to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission.
For Lauderhill, a majority-Black city in Broward County, these charges pose serious concerns about public trust and law enforcement integrity. The community is particularly sensitive to issues of accountability, and the city’s swift response, along with the FDLE’s involvement, underscores the importance of transparency in law enforcement practices.
As the criminal case against Sguros remains pending, it is crucial to note that an arrest does not equate to a conviction. The charges are allegations, and the legal process will determine the outcome.
The Lauderhill community will be closely monitoring the proceedings, reflecting the broader need for accountability and trust in public institutions.
