Before Juneteenth, there was May 20, 1865.

On that day in Tallahassee, Florida’s enslaved population was told they were free. We call it Florida’s Emancipation Day, and it pre-dates Juneteenth by 25 days. It is a story too often left out of the national conversation, and it is the foundation of everything that follows.

This Saturday, May 23, we gather at the Ali Cultural Arts Center in Pompano Beach to remember it, name it, and celebrate it as the opening of The Juneteenth Experience 2026.

A block party rooted in freedom, creativity, and Black joy. Workshops, vendor village, live DJ, food trucks, and a featured outdoor performance under the night sky.
This is our season’s throughline, drawn from Langston Hughes as the country approaches its 250th year: We, Too, Sing America.

Hued Songs and the Pompano Beach Cultural Affairs Department invite you home.
