Senator Moody Announces Recipients of Nearly Half a Billion Dollars for Florida Disaster Recovery Funds

City News Community

Senator Ashley Moody has announced a significant boost for Florida communities, with nearly half a billion dollars in federal disaster recovery funds set to be distributed across the state. This initiative comes after Moody’s discussions with Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to expedite FEMA public assistance funding—a critical step for communities still grappling with the aftermath of recent devastating storms.

The funds will support over 500 recovery projects. These initiatives are crucial for repairing educational facilities, restoring infrastructure, removing debris, and covering emergency costs to protect life and property. The funding is earmarked for a wide range of projects, from stormwater pipe repairs in Fort Lauderdale to dune restoration in Flagler County and emergency power restoration in several counties.

For example, Broward County will receive substantial support, including over $10 million for Fort Lauderdale’s stormwater pipes and more than $6 million for the city’s emergency support services. Charlotte County will benefit from projects like the repair of their waterway system and emergency support for fire and rescue teams. Meanwhile, Leon County is set to receive over $81 million for various projects, including labor support and emergency services provided by the Florida Division of Emergency Management.

Senator Moody expressed her commitment to the state, stating, “I am proud to announce that following a very productive meeting with the Department of Homeland Security, we’ve secured a commitment for nearly a half a billion dollars in FEMA public assistance funding. This is much needed for our communities following devastating storms over the past few years. I will never stop working for a Stronger, Safer Florida.”

The reach of these funds is extensive, touching numerous counties and offering hope for faster recovery and rebuilding efforts. Communities from Miami-Dade to Volusia County are poised to benefit, which will have a lasting impact on reducing inequities and enhancing resilience against future disasters.

As these projects roll out, communities across Florida are expected to see improved infrastructure, better emergency response capabilities, and a stronger foundation to withstand future challenges. The focus on localized recovery efforts ensures that residents will feel the positive effects directly.
