PRIDE
As a journalist, I take pride in my communication skills, in building trust in the community, and acting as liaison between government officials and residents. While I am proud of my role as a journalist, it isn’t the role that I am most proud of. Aside from my faith in the Lord and my love for my family, the thing I take the most pride in is guiding people. Maybe that’s why I have so many kids! But this summer, I adopted four more. Well, kind of. Villij News is hosting its first set of interns. I have the pleasure of teaching, guiding, and helping four young seniors (three of them attend Blanche Ely and one attends Dillard High) learn about their community, how to lead, how to explore and how to connect with people. I am proud of them, and I am proud that this community has continued to support Villij News. Thank you for reading and supporting the young journalists who could have been doing anything with their summer, but they chose to be a part of Pompano Beach and its history. June is a special month, it’s Pride Month if you identify as LGBT+! It’s African American Music Month! It’s Carribean Heritage Month! Its Juneteenth! It’s really a reason to celebrate. Take this energy of excitement, of change and of hope that June brings with you as we endure these hot South Florida months.
Yours in Communication,
