Fresh Food Boxes Return to Pompano Beach’s Patricia Davis Community Garden

City News Community

Pompano Beach residents are excited to see the return of the Fresh Food Box program at the Patricia Davis Community Garden, a vital resource for those seeking fresh, affordable produce. With the program resuming this week, the community is preparing to pick up their boxes and enjoy a bounty of locally grown fruits and vegetables.

The Fresh Food Box initiative addresses food accessibility in Pompano Beach by offering fresh produce at reduced prices, especially benefiting EBT/SNAP cardholders who receive a 50% discount. The program aims to bridge the gap for families who struggle with food insecurity by providing nutritious options right in their neighborhood.

This week, pickups are scheduled for Wednesday, December 17, from 11:00 a.m. to noon and 4:30 p.m. to dusk, and Friday, December 19, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Interested participants must register by 7 p.m. on Tuesday, December 16, by emailing info@thefruitfulfield.org. Confirmation emails will be sent to those with reserved boxes.

The community garden emphasizes a first-come, first-served policy, with priority given to Pompano Beach residents due to the program’s overwhelming demand. The initiative also encourages residents to cancel their reservations if unable to collect their boxes, ensuring those on the waitlist can benefit.

In addition to the Fresh Food Box program, the Patricia Davis Community Garden offers tours and events on Saturday mornings. For those unable to secure a box, the garden’s produce is available at local markets like the Pompano Beach Green Market and The Dania Beach PATCH on designated Saturdays.

The Patricia Davis Community Garden team, led by Site Manager William Sidwell and Executive Director Jaime Castoro, hopes to continue growing this program, fostering a healthier community through access to fresh food.
