Black Arts City News Community Education Entertainment

The rhythmic beats of drums and vibrant melodies of horns will fill the air in West Palm Beach this Saturday, January 24, 2026, as The Lakes Show Battle of the Bands takes center stage at Palm Beach Lakes High School. This dynamic event, powered by Sound Check Be Heard, promises a day of musical excellence and community celebration.

Rebranded from its former name, the Florida Bands Jamboree, The Lakes Show Battle of the Bands highlights the growth and cultural significance of this beloved South Florida tradition. The event will open its gates at 1:00 PM, welcoming students, families, and marching band enthusiasts to witness some of the region’s most talented middle and high school marching bands.

A special highlight of the event will be an exhibition performance by Florida Memorial University, showcasing the artistry and tradition of one of Florida’s premier Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). This performance will celebrate the precision and energy that HBCU bands are renowned for, emphasizing cultural pride and youth development.

Joshua Velez, the Band Director at Palm Beach Lakes High School, shared the vision behind the rebrand: “The decision to change the name and rebrand this event was rooted in growth, clarity, and vision. As the event has evolved in scope, scale, and impact, it became necessary for the name and visual identity to better reflect its mission, energy, and cultural relevance—but most importantly our school name too.”

The Palm Beach Lakes High School Ram Regiment Band, known for their recent performance in London’s New Year’s Day Parade, continues to gain international acclaim, further elevating the event’s prestige.

The Lakes Show Battle of the Bands not only provides a platform for young musicians to shine but also fosters a sense of unity and school spirit within the community. Attendees can look forward to a day filled with competition, camaraderie, and unforgettable performances.
