HOA Treasurer Concerned About Quality of Life
Barbara BJ Coons is originally from Rochester, New York, and moved to Pompano Beach’s Leisureville 15 years ago.
Coons is running to help her community get the support it needs. Her first order of business is crime. She has seen an increase in car and home burglaries in Leisureville and would like more street lights and patrols to keep residents safe. She also wants to alleviate traffic, the city’s plan for a new city hall and the debt associated with it.
She’s worked in retail, banking, the medical field, and as a daycare teacher. She holds an associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology from Monroe Community College in Rochester, NY. And attended night school while working to earn her Bachelor of Science Degree from Rochester Institute of Technology with concentrations in Medical Technology, Health System Administration and Chemistry.
She worked in the chemistry laboratory at Highlands Hospital for ten years. And later worked as Johnson and Johnson for 23 years as a quality engineer. She moved to Pompano in 2007, retired in 2014, and has been active in Leisureville as treasurer and vice president.
Her platform includes reducing crime, improving lighting within Leisureville, monitoring government spending, supporting small mom and pop shops, and being the voice of her community.
She’s been married for 51 years, has two children, five grandchildren, three step grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
