FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — The Disney Destiny, Disney Cruise Line’s latest ship, was christened Monday evening at Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale. The event marked the beginning of its inaugural season of cruises to the Bahamas and Western Caribbean, starting Nov. 20.
The christening was a dazzling affair featuring a concert-like celebration with drone effects, scenic projections, and live performances. Iconic Disney music from films such as “Hercules,” “The Lion King,” and “Frozen” filled the air, creating a vibrant tribute to Disney’s storied legacy.
“Innovative and entertaining experiences are at the heart of Disney’s mission,” said Josh D’Amaro, Chairman of Disney Experiences. “The Disney Destiny continues this tradition by bringing joy to our guests in unique ways.”
Broadway star Susan Egan, known for her role as Megara in “Hercules,” served as the ship’s godmother, bestowing the ceremonial blessing. “The dedication and creativity poured into this ship are truly spectacular,” Joe Schott, President of Disney Signature Experiences, noted.
In addition to its impressive design, the ship will offer a variety of experiences inspired by Disney, Pixar, and Marvel heroes and villains. Guests can look forward to a Broadway-style “Hercules” adaptation, themed dining, character interactions, and a Mickey Mouse water attraction.
Disney Cruise Line is also launching the “Discover Your Destiny” initiative, partnering with local organizations in Florida and The Bahamas to inspire students through theater and entertainment career insights.
The Disney Destiny joins a fleet that is set to expand to 13 ships by 2031, including ventures to Singapore and Japan. Its sister ships include the Disney Wish and the Disney Treasure.
As the Disney Destiny prepares for its maiden voyage, the community is invited to explore the magical journeys it promises. For those interested in experiencing these adventures firsthand, visit disneycruise.com or contact a travel agent.
