Crash Kills Pedestrian in Pompano Beach

At 4:22 pm on July 10, 2024, Broward County Regional Communication’s received a report of a traffic crash with injuries in 2500 Block of east Atlantic Blvd, Pompano Beach. After receiving this call BSO deputies and Pompano Beach fire rescue responded and were sent to the place of the crash.

Pedestrian: Elena Mijajlovic , 89, 7/14/1934 – Female (Deceased)

Driver: Howard Yontef , 76, Male, Fort Lauderdale

Preliminary Investigation reveals that the driver of a 2014 Toyota was heading eastbound of East Atlantic Blvd. in the right thru lane approaching 2500 block when pedestrian Elena Mijajlovic was walking north near Southeast 25th Avenue and stepped into eastbound lanes of traffic outside of the designated crosswalk where then she was struck by the front driver’s side of the vehicle in the right thru lane. Paramedics transported Mijajlovic to Broward Health North where she was pronounced deceased a short time later.

Detectives say that yontef remained at the scene and was cooperative during the investigation. Neither Impairment, Excessive speed nor mechanical malfunction are considered contributing factors in the crash.
