LAUDERDALE LAKES — A 21-year-old transgender woman from Pompano Beach was shot and killed Friday evening during an altercation inside a vehicle in Lauderdale Lakes, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded just before 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 14 to the 3300 block of Northwest 37th Street after receiving a medical call. When first responders arrived, they found Maurice “Girlalala” Harrison, 21, in the front passenger seat of a vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds.

Paramedics transported Harrison to Broward Health Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

Investigators say the shooting happened during a verbal argument that escalated into a physical confrontation between Harrison and Shanoyd Whyte Jr., 25, of Lauderdale Lakes. The two had reportedly been in a relationship for several years.

According to detectives, the argument occurred inside Whyte Jr.’s vehicle. At some point during the dispute, Harrison was shot while seated in the passenger seat. Deputies recovered a firearm on scene.

Whyte Jr. was taken into custody at the location and later transported to BSO’s Main Jail. He faces a charge of first-degree murder with a firearm.

BSO’s Homicide and Crime Scene units continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the case.

This tragedy highlights ongoing concerns for the safety and well-being of transgender residents in Broward County. Anyone with information that may support this investigation or community resources for LGBTQ+ safety initiatives is encouraged to contact local advocates and law enforcement.
