Fort Lauderdale, FL — Broward HealthPoint is hosting a special celebration today to honor more than 50 mothers who completed the Centering Pregnancy program. The event took place December 5 at 1 p.m. at Broward Health Medical Center, located at 1600 S. Andrews Ave.
The gathering recognizes mothers who attended all 10 sessions of the program, which combines traditional prenatal care with group support and education. Participants will share their experiences and the supportive networks they built during their prenatal journey. The event will feature music, a 360-video booth, giveaways, educational resources, and lunch for families.
Centering Pregnancy is an evidence-based model aimed at improving maternal health outcomes. Research indicates this approach reduces preterm births and infant mortality while boosting birth weights and breastfeeding rates. The program also enhances social support, increases prenatal knowledge, and addresses racial disparities in maternal and infant health.
The need for such initiatives is critical in Broward County, particularly in communities like Lauderhill, Lauderdale Lakes, Sunrise, and Oakland Park, where access to prenatal and postpartum care is limited. In these areas, Black and Haitian women face fetal loss rates three times higher and infant death rates more than 2.5 times higher than their white and Hispanic counterparts.
By offering education, close monitoring, and culturally informed care, the Centering Pregnancy program plays a vital role in addressing these inequities.
