Moody’s upgrade reflects Broward Health’s strengthened financial position and community impact.
In Fort Lauderdale, Broward Health’s financial strides are creating ripples of optimism across the community. The North Broward Hospital District, operating as Broward Health, recently received an upgrade in its revenue bond rating from Moody’s Investors Service, moving from Baa1 to A3. This change highlights the health system’s commitment to financial stability and quality care for local residents.
This upgrade is more than just a financial achievement; it represents a sustained effort to enhance healthcare services for the community. With improved liquidity and operational strength, Broward Health aims to continue its role as a vital safety net provider in Northern Broward County.
Moody’s highlighted Broward Health’s consistent robust cash flow and increasing cash reserves as key factors in the rating change. Alisa Bert, the chief financial officer, expressed that this recognition reaffirms their dedication to maintaining a strong health system. “Our continued focus on high-quality care and operational discipline is delivering measurable results,” Bert noted.
The positive momentum doesn’t stop there. S&P Global Ratings also upgraded Broward Health’s 2017B revenue bonds from A- to A+, while Fitch Ratings assigned an A+ Issuer Default Rating, both reflecting increased confidence in Broward Health’s financial trajectory. Shane Strum, Broward Health’s President & CEO, emphasized the significance of these achievements, stating, “Our patient volumes and revenues have exceeded expectations while operational expenses have been held in check.”
In 2025, Broward Health served over 1.17 million patients, marking a 4.3% increase from the previous year. This growth in service underscores the community’s trust in Broward Health as a top healthcare provider.
Looking ahead, Broward Health plans to leverage its improved financial position to invest significantly in infrastructure and technology. This includes acquiring new properties and building freestanding emergency departments, ensuring that the future of healthcare in Broward County is both accessible and advanced.
