POMPANO BEACH — Blanche Ely High School students are putting their mark on campus in a big and colorful way. On Nov. 20, the community will gather at the Pompano Beach PLC to celebrate the dedication of a new student-designed mural titled “What Is a Tiger?”—a vibrant tribute to school pride, personal excellence, and the enduring spirit of the Blanche Ely Tigers.
The mural was created under the guidance of artist Andrew Hayes, who collaborated with Blanche Ely High School students to dream, plan, and install the work. Their creation bursts with color and meaning: bold lettering, musical notes, sports symbols, medical icons, graduation caps, and affirming words like brave, smart, and calm are woven together to form a joyful landscape of identity and aspiration.
At its center is a portrait honoring Blanche Ely’s legacy and the many leaders who have shaped the school’s culture of achievement and resilience.
The dedication ceremony will feature special guest Coach Randall, a beloved figure in the Blanche Ely community. The event is part of the City of Pompano Beach’s ongoing commitment to uplifting youth voices through public art and cultural programming.
Refreshments will be provided, and students, families, and community partners are invited to attend.
