Cyndy Floyd celebrated 130 days in office last month. The people of Pompano Beach chose Floyd to represent District 5, which includes Collier City and Palm Aire, in November, as she beat out incumbent Barry Moss by 130 votes. Floyd is the first African American to hold the seat. Floyd beat the incumbent thanks to extensive door-to-door campaigning, giving out free sanitizer, and speaking out against some of the inflammatory comments made by former commissioner Moss. Floyd is a 53-year-old Pompano native, Blanche Ely graduate, gospel singer, and a billing supervisor. She is excited to create a sense of belonging and unity to her district. She will work to reduce homelessness and crime, increase more city contracts for all
residents and minority firms, affordable housing, push back on gentrification, and ensure regular communication with residents. She also intends to improve employment in the city by redeveloping the Isle Casino and providing other opportunities that will eventually generate income for residents. She joins Vice Mayor Beverly Perkins as one of the few Black women to serve on the City Commission.
